DO ACNE SCAR CREAMS WORK? WHICH ONE SHOULD I TRY?

You would have already read and understood from the several articles on this website that acne scars can be treated using a variety of effective methods such as Laser treatment, dermabrasion, chemical peels, nonablative treatment etc. However, if you belong to the type which is scared of such surgical / medical oriented procedures for scar resurfacing, then you would be tempted to look at simpler alternatives like skin creams for treating acne scars.

Before you make up your mind about using acne scar creams  for treating your scars, let me tell you very honestly that although such creams are available in the market, they may not be as effective as the other methods mentioned in this website. To explain better, let me first introduce the process by which all methods work. In all effective scar removal methods, collagen of the skin is stimulated so that it leads to generation of new skin. Thus the scar fades away. While methods like laser treatment, chemical peels, dermabrasion, Subcision and Punch techniques work well by this principle, a acne scar cream cannot fully do so by simple topical application.

Thus acne scar cream can at best help to some extent in cases of mild or very superficial scars, they will fail with deeper and largers scars. What they will at best do is to fade the appearance of scars.

The way these creams work - You apply the cream on the affected area (scars) and let it settle down on the scar. After some time, the chemical in the creams starts to work upon mildening the scar through the scientific principle.

So keep one thing very clearly in mind, if you have deep scars and a lot of them, then acne scar cream is not the right solution for you. However, if you have fewer and superficial scars, you may try them. Alternatively, even if you have deeper scars, you have the option of first trying out acne scar cream before consulting a skin specialist (doctor) for professional treatment of your scars. In case such creams help you, you may be able to escape invasive methods and spending a lot of money on treatment!

So if you feel that its worth a try, then you can read on further to find out what popular creams are available in the market for treating acne scars........
