NEWER METHODS OF ACNE SCAR TREATMENT AVAILABLE FOR YOU

We have already discussed several effective methods for treatment of acne scar like chemical peel, dermabrasion, laser resurfacing of scars & soft tissue augmentation on the main page of this site. In my endeavor to keep you updated on latest techniques and information on acne scar treatment, I have added additional methods for acne scar treatment on this page. Keep reading to know more about these treatment methods.

Subcision
Subcision is a treatment option available for those suffering from acne scar. This treatment method is quite suitable especially for those having deep rolling scars.

This treatment method involves detachment of the scar from the deeper skin tissue. Blood This leads to formation of a pool of blood under the scar. The blood clots and this clot facilitates in forming a connecting tissue under the scar. In this way it levels the scar with the surface of the rest of the skin.

At times this treatment method may be used in conjunction with other methods like laser resurfacing or dermabrasion. Alternatively, some kind of filling material may be injected in the skin to level the skin.

Subcision is not an easy procedure and is performed by a plastic surgeon or dermatologist. Given below are the images of before and after subcision treatment results.

   RESULTS AFTER SUBCISION

The results as seen in above case seem to be not bad at all though not excellent.

Please note that after subcision, bruises and swelling is present on the affected skin for atleast 15-20 days. This brings us to the next scar treatment method:

Punch technique
There are three different types of punch techniques that can be used for treating acne scars. These are explained below:

Punch excision method
In punch excision treatment, the pitted scar is removed. Then the affected part of skin is closed and allowed to heal.

Punch elevation method
In punch elevation, the scar is the cut loose from the base but not completely pulled off. Infact it is allowed to stay afloat at the level of the adjacent skin thus leveling the skin.

Punch replacement method
In punch replacement the pitted scar is removed with the help of a hair transplant type of punch. The removed pitted scar is then replaced using grafted skin. This skin may be from any part of your body - however mostly it is used from the behind of your ear.

This method is very suitable and effective for deep acne scars.

Do note that all punch techniques require 3-5 weeks or even more to fully heal. Just like subcision, these punch techniques may be used in conjunction with Dermabrasion or Laser resurfacing to get noticable results.

Autologous fat transfer
In this method, fat from another part of your body in injected under the affected skin. This is done in order to  elevate the depressed scars. Autologous means from your own body. This method is generally used to treat deep contour defects caused by acne scar. The fat injected under the skin gets reabsorbed into the skin in the next 1-1.5 years. Therefore this method is generally repeated. For long lasting results, several multiple rounds of treatment may be required.
